Work begins on Whetstone waste site redevelopment

Posted on February 25, 2013 by staff

Work will begin on Wednesday (Feb 27) to redevelop Whetstone Recycling and Household Waste Site.

Leicestershire County Council will be reconstructing the facility to provide a modern layout with improved access and parking.

The scheme will include the creation of a new recycling and waste disposal area which will include easy access skips for the public to use.

Work will take around eight months in total and the site will remain open for the duration. Site clearance work ahead of construction will begin on Wednesday.

Richard Blunt, Leicestershire County Council Cabinet Member for Waste Management, said:

“We are delighted to be able to begin this site clearance work which is the first step in our project to improve Whetstone Recycling and Household Waste Site.

“We will endeavour to keep disruption to a minimum during the construction period. However, the extent of the works will reduce the current tipping area so delays are possible during busy periods.

“We advise residents to use the site at off peak times, which is the early morning and late evening, if they can. Facilities are also available at Barwell, Lutterworth and Oadby as an alternative.”
