Get Active Together

Active Together Blaby

Events are being organised in the district of Blaby to help promote physical activity and encourage people to take up new leisure interests.

The activities include Wriggley walks (through libraries), netball coaching, Nordic Walking, pedometer challenges and many more. In addition to this physical activity sessions such as box fit, skipping sessions have been organized to target 16-25 year olds on the 637 youth bus as part of the summer programme in the district.

The aim of the 'Active Together' project is to improve health by increasing the physical activity levels of 6,160 people living in Leicestershire to 3 x 30 minutes of physical activity per week. The project aims to break down barriers to participation at a local level and will encourage non-participants and hard to reach groups to take part in physical activity.

Local residents are encouraged to participate in 3 sessions of physical activity at least 3 times per week. These do not include gardening, DIY or housework. It is important that we stress the message to residents to participate in at least 3 x 30 minutes to gain health benefits and prevent coronary heart disease and obesity.

Councillor Ted Webster-Williams, Cabinet member with responsibility for Community Focus said

"This is a fabulous scheme which allows people to improve their health and well-being by taking part in physical activity at convenient local locations."

To find out how you can participate in 3 x 3O contact Physical Activity Coordinator Hina Parmar on 0116 272 7704 or email hp1@blaby.gov.uk.

Hip Hop Comes to Enderby!

Tuesdays, 7pm and 8pm at Enderby Civic Centre

Graphic: A taste of MTV comes to Enderby!

...Ever wanted to 'Rock Ya Body' like Justin Timberlake? Or 'Dontcha' wish you could dance like the Pusseycat Dolls? Perhaps you want to 'Pump It' like the Black Eyed Peas?

Amy Dalton, a fully qualified, experienced and insured teacher will guarantee to rid of any "attitude" and promote good feeling within the community.

It's a funky alternative to exercise, and a fresh new way to get involved with Hip-Hop music.

Classes promise a fun, relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. Not only this, but they also inspire new ideas and build confidence. No obscene, derogative or explicit music/movement will be used at any time.

Come and try it... you could end up dancing on MTV!

Classes are open to all 7 - 16 year olds and all for just £3 per head!

Manga Cafe

Illustration from the Manga Cafe (Leics.CC website)

Manga and Animé group meeting monthly at Enderby Library.

We meet on Saturday afternoons from 1pm - 2pm every 4 weeks.

This is an informal group, drop in - there's no need to book.

All ages welcome - Meet other fans - Borrow new titles
Discuss what you're reading/watching - Write reviews

If you want, you can bring snacks to share while we talk.

At each group we will decide what to do in future sessions. For example, last year we decided to put together a newsletter/magazine for Christmas with reviews and pictures, and to try to learn some Japanese together. So come and join us if this sounds like something in which you'd be interested.

Further details may be obtained from Ali at Enderby Library,
or by telephone on 0116 2862091.
