Walk through Fosse Meadows raises valuable funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care

Posted on November 8, 2012 by staff

A walk through Fosse Meadows raised valuable funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care in memory of Councillor Phil Fox.

Joan Rampton, Chairman of the South Leicestershire Marie Curie Cancer Care Fundraising Group, received a cheque from Councillor Ernie White and Councillor Jo Fox for £444.88 donated in memory of long-serving Blaby District and Braunstone Town Councillor Phil Fox who sadly passed away earlier in the year after a determined battle with cancer.

The money was raised by a sponsored walk through Fosse Meadows.

The 66-year-old former school teacher was first elected to both authorities in 1995 and represented the local community for almost 17 years.

He was also a keen poet and a big fan of Liverpool Football Club and the Leicester Tigers.  His wife, Councillor Jo Fox, is leader of Braunstone Town Council and also serves as a district and county councillor.

Added to the money raised at the Blooming Great Tea party and other fundraising events held earlier in the year brings the total, that the local South Leicestershire Marie Curie Cancer Care Fundraising Group has raised, to over £7200.00 so far in 2012.

The group are also holding a Christmas Coffee Morning at St Pius X Church Hall, Narborough on Saturday 1st December to raise even more funds and everyone is invited. >>Read more here

The money raised will help raise even more funds to help more Marie Curie Nurses to provide free care to patients with terminal cancer and other illnesses in the comfort of their own homes or one of the charity’s hospices.

To get help from the Marie Curie Nursing Service, talk to your GP, district nurse or discharge nurse. For more information, please visit: www.mariecurie.org.uk.

The group are also calling upon anyone who might be interested about joining to find out more by contacting Gill McQueen on 0116 2865524
