Two in a row for council chairman

Councillor Barry Garner was sworn in as chairman of Blaby District Council for the second consecutive year at their annual meeting in May 2011.

The chairman raised £13,000 for Vista, the society for the blind during his previous year in office along with £1, 700 for CAFFY (Community Action Fund for Youth) and has chosen to support branches of the Royal British Legion in Croft and Blaby this time round.

The 66-year-old district and county councillor has lived in Littlethorpe for more than 40 years and is undertaking his third term as chairman at Blaby, he said: “I had a fantastic year attending so many wonderful events and meeting lost of inspirational people.

“I feel privileged to take up office once more and I’m looking forward to representing the district again.”

Councillor Janet Forey was named as vice chair for the year.

The chairman is available to attend any events that groups and businesses may be planning over the next year.
