A recruitment evening is being hosted for young people aged 11-19 to have their voices heard and to get involved with local democracy.
Blaby District Youth Council, which has been running since 2003, is holding its recruitment event at the Council Chamber on Thursday 2 July from 4-6pm, Desford Road, Narborough, LE19 2EP.
The interactive evening will give anyone interested in joining a chance to find out what it’s all about.
The Youth Council offers many unique opportunities to members, who will get the opportunity to work with current councillors, organise events and help to improve their communities by awarding grants to local youth projects.
Councillor David Freer, Portfolio Holder for Partnerships and Corporate Services said:
“The Youth Council is important because it gives young people a chance to make a positive contribution to this council.
“Young people can get involved in decision making on matters that affect them and it provides a fantastic opportunity to develop new skills, knowledge and confidence, all while having some fun along the way!”

Enderby Brass band are in the process of change and are advertising for a new Musical Director as a result of Jonathan Mott’s enforced retirement through ill health.
The band had hoped he would be in a position to resume his role once back to full health, but he has decided to step down.
The organisation says it intends to use the appointment of a new Musical Director to open a new chapter in the band’s illustrious history.
As so often happens when a band is without a permanent full time Musical Director, a number of players have been tempted away to other bands and so the organisation is therefore looking to recruit around half a dozen players to bring them back to full strength.
The band rehearses on Tuesday and Friday evenings from 8pm to 10pm; then some call in at the pub on the way home!
Alongside ‘Enderby Band’, their partner bands in the Organisation (the Youth, Junior, Concert and Wind Bands) continue to thrive with a combined membership of over 100 players.
The Youth Band recently finished in joint first place at the Action Medical Research Youth Brass Band Entertainment Festival of Great Britain.
All four bands welcome beginners through to experienced musicians of all ages, allowing them the opportunity to enjoy their playing.
Any former player with the band – or a player wishing to join a successful friendly band can call Dave Stanley, Senior Band Chairman, on 0116 2866103 or Chris Stanley (Stan), Senior Band Manager, on 07855 625556.
Stan vcan also be reached on email@example.com for more information on any of the bands or details for attending a rehearsal.
