Kirby Muxloe temporary parish councillors host meet and greet session

Kirby Muxloe residents will have the chance to meet the newly appointed temporary council members at the Kirby Muxloe village hall on Friday June 28, 7.15pm.

The public meeting will allow residents to ask questions and discuss issues with the temporary parish councillors ahead of the first official meeting on Thursday July 11, at the Kirby Muxloe parish offices.

The meet and greet session is set to last around two hours.

The team of temporary councillors was voted in last Tuesday at a meeting of Blaby District Council, which took control of the village authority two weeks ago.

Audit catalogued Council ‘failures’

The district body was forced to step in after six parish councillors resigned this month and the parish council no longer had enough members to function.

The departures followed an Audit Commission report, released in May, which listed a catalogue of failures and poor governance at the parish council.

Blaby District Council leader Ernie White told local media*:

“This whole affair has been tortuous but, hopefully, the end is in sight.

“The new people have a hell of a job on their hands, dealing with the Audit Commission report and all sorts of accusations that are still flying around.

“Some of the old guard still remain.

“The new members are all good people, of good repute, who are very experienced and know how to run a parish council.

“They are all strong characters and they won’t take any nonsense.”
