Football walks into Whetstone

Walking FootballIt was made famous in a television advert and now the opportunity to play Walking Football has finally come back to the area.

In partnership with Leicestershire and Rutland County FA, Blaby District Council is launching the fast-growing sport here in our area, starting on Wednesday 16 September, between 2-3pm at Holmes Park, Dog and Gun Lane, in nearby Whetstone (LE8 6FA.)

Walking football is almost exactly the same as football, with one key difference; if a player runs they concede a free kick to the other side.

The game aims to promote fitness and place less stress on the body whilst playing.

Sessions are a great way to keep active and it’s open to everyone.

The first session is free, with further sessions costing just £2.

Enderby Foxes win Champions title

Enderby Foxes have completed a fantastic season by being crowned champions of Mutual League Under-10 Division Seven.

A report in the Leicester Mercury says the team have steadily progressed each year and their triumph was the culmination of some great team-work combined with individual flair.

Part of the success goes down to Enderby Foxes management committee who, this year, invested heavily in the club.

Much funding went towards developing the Narborough and Littlethorpe Sports Ground and there was plenty of valuable time on the superb 3G training facilities at Brockington College.

Coach Richard Gillatt said: “It’s been an absolute pleasure to work with the lads this season and they are a joy to watch.”
