Exercise referral scheme expands to Enderby

A partnership between Blaby District Council and Everyone Active will see the expansion of the successful Exercise Referral Scheme offering pool-based classes.

The 12-week scheme offers people who are currently inactive have a medical condition the opportunity to participate in exercise and benefit from physical activity under the guidance of qualified professional.

After previously only being hosted at the Pavilion Leisure Centre, Everyone Active’s involvement will see the Referral Scheme and specialist classes made available at Enderby Leisure Centre. The beginner classes in Enderby will include an exercise circuit, gym workout and swimming.

Toni, the specialist Aquatic in Health Instructor leading the ‘wet programme,’ said: “We’re delighted to be launching the Exercise Referral Scheme at Enderby Leisure Centre and hope it will help to encourage more people to lead healthier lifestyles.

“Those who are referred onto the scheme will be given all the support and guidance they need from our expert teams to help them along their journey. Swimming activities are the ideal introduction to being more active and are lots of fun too!”

Councillor Iain Hewson, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Regulatory Services, said: “We are extremely proud to offer the Exercise Referral Scheme for residents of the district who need it. The positive impact it makes on people’s lives is nothing short of incredible.

“Our partnership with Everyone Active will ensure those who can benefit most from water-based exercise will get the chance to use the pool at Enderby Leisure Centre to start their journey.”

Anyone who feels they are physically inactive and would like to be referred onto the scheme needs to be referred through their GP.

Enderby Leisure Centre kick-starts fundraising for a national charity

Fight Klub members in action....On Saturday 4th November more than 50 people from across the district joined a Enderby Leisure Centre operator, Everyone Active, in ‘kick-starting’ their fundraising efforts for mental health charity, Mind.

In June this year, Everyone Active (who operate Enderby Leisure and Golf Centre on behalf of Blaby District Council) pledged to raise £100,000 for Mind, to help ensure no one has to face a mental health problem alone.

Enderby Leisure and Golf Centre has pledged to raise £1,000 before June next year to help them achieve this goal.

To help reach their fundraising target, colleagues and members at Enderby Leisure and Golf Centre took part in an hour long Fight Master Class.

‘Fight Klub’ offers a high intensity work out by combining a range of moves from boxing, kick boxing and Thai boxing to upbeat music.

By donating the cost of class to charity, Everyone Active raised £200 for Mind.

James Naylor, Everyone Active’s contract manager said:

“We are proud to be working with Mind as our chosen charity partner. The team at Mind carry out lots of great work and are passionate about raising awareness of mental health.

“I am delighted that our members and colleagues have raised such a fantastic amount for Mind while staying active.”

One in four people will experience a mental health problem in any given year.
