Dance sessions for local primary school

Dance sessions will be available for pupils at Danemill Primary School in Enderby, thanks to funding from Active Arts and Blaby District Council.

Active Arts, a voluntary group based in Countesthorpe, works in partnership with Blaby District Council and helps to deliver parts of the Council’s Art Development service.

The joint funding will allow the school to provide taster sessions with the view these sessions can then become self-funded.

Catherine Winterton, Acting Headteacher at Danemill Primary School, said:

“We will be giving the children the opportunity to participate in taster sessions for creative dance week commencing 11th March. The initial classes are funded by Active Arts through Blaby District Council and there will be an extra dance club starting after Easter for the children who wish to continue.”

Councillor David Clements, portfolio holder for Corporate Services, Performance and Leisure, said:

“This is a great opportunity for young people to get involved in dance, not only will they learn new skills, they will keep fit and have lots of fun. If successful this approach could be encouraged at other schools too.”

The sessions will start after Easter and be open to all pupils.
