Christmas tree recycling

Photo: Xmas treeSince Victorian times, the tradition has been to take Christmas decorations down on Twelfth Night – so that would mean these should ‘techinically’ come down by the night of January 5th.

However, there’s some confusion, with many people thinking of January 6th as being the twelfth night – that is, if you count the days from the first day of Christmas, which is Boxing Day.

Regardless to whichever tradition Enderby residents subscribe, the result is the need to either pack away or dispose of the decorative baubles and real Christmas trees. The most awkward of these is the ‘real’ Christmas trees.

This year, Blaby District Council will once again be collecting Christmas trees for recycling during the new-year period, and as the Christmas festivities come to an end.

Christmas tree drop off points will be available at the following sites until Friday 8 January.

Enderby – Leisure Centre car park, Mill Lane

Elsewhere in the District:

Countesthorpe – Co-Op Supermarket car park, Main Steeet

Elmesthorpe – Village Hall cat park, Wilkinson Lane

Glenfield – Samford Street car park

Glen Parva – Playing field car park, Dorothy Avenue

Huncote – Pavilion Leisure Centre car park, Sportsfield Lane

Narborough – Narborough park car park, Desford Road

Stoney Stanton – War Memorial Playing Fields, Carey Hill Road

Thorpe Astley – Aldi Car Park, Meridian Way

Whetstone Tip, managed by Leicestershire County Council, will also take residents’ trees
