Apprenticeship Week highlights Blaby District Council success

Blaby District Council is marking 2018 National Apprenticeship Week by highlighting the wide career prospects that apprentices can achieve.

Organised by the National Apprenticeship Service, the week celebrates apprenticeships, traineeships and the positive impact they have on individuals, businesses and the local economy.

Apprentices have been a familiar face across the Council since 2015, with five currently working across the organisation, including Property, Environmental Services, Fleet, Finance and Planning.

Many apprentices have gone on to secure permanent jobs with the authority; while others have secured jobs across Leicestershire in the area they undertook their apprenticeship.

Jess Stubley: Looking forward to seeing where the skills will take her

Jess Stubley, who joined as an apprentice in the Environmental Services team last year, said:

“Blaby District Council has given me one of the greatest opportunities to expand my knowledge in an admin based career. I have already encountered many exciting experiences, learnt new and improving skills and work with one of the friendliest, most supportive teams I could ask for.

“I look forward to seeing where the skills and qualifications achieved from working within the Blaby District Council will take me.”

Sam Alderson was an apprentice in Land Charges before becoming a full-time Team Assistant in Environmental Health. He said:

“My apprenticeship in Land Charges taught me skills that are useful for all areas across the Council. These skills have allowed me to further my career and get a full time job as well as a platform to build on for the rest of my career.

“I now work full time in Environmental Health which I enjoy a lot and is extremely varied. No two days are the same and I’m constantly learning new things.”

Mark Foote, Strategic Manager for HR, said:

“Apprenticeships are an ideal way to gain experience and it is fantastic to see our apprentices develop their careers and secure permanent positions with us.

“We’re also pleased to see some move into other services within the Council, further showing that the skills they are picking up not only benefit themselves but the whole authority. We’re looking forward to welcoming more in 2018 as Blaby District Council continues to be a place to work and achieve successful career development.”

Several vacancies for apprentices across the Council will soon be advertised, including Planning, Revenues, Environmental Health and Building Control.
