The mild bright evening of Monday 9th May saw the arrival of the BB19 Youth Bus at Enderby Mill Lane Park.

The purple bus, which was launched on the 19th May last year and snapped (left) almost a year later by EYE contributor Heidi Geisler, is used for youth work every evening and also out and about on various days at a variety of Council events.

It is kitted out with media equipment including computers, a flat screen TV, gaming consoles and DJ equipment.

Police, Fire and Youth Offending services make use of the bus as well as the council’s benefits, housing, environmental health and sports development teams.

Team members take advice on sexual health, smoking, drugs, alcohol, bullying and anti-social behaviour to youngsters across Blaby district. The bus is used for a range of activities including sport and support and discussions around relevant issues.

The bus provides facilities so that the Youth Work Team can work with young people anywhere in the District, with or without a youth centre nearby.

This gives the team the ability to respond easily to reports of anti social behaviour. The Detached Youth Work Project works in remote rural areas with vulnerable young people primarily aged between 11-19.

The BB19 Youth Bus will again be stopping Monday evenings 6.30 – 8.30pm at Enderby Mill Lane Park on May 16th and 23rd, then June 13th, 20th and 27th and July 4th and 11th.

Other ‘bus stops’ throughout May – July are:
Tuesdays: Thorpe Astley Community Centre, Lakin Drive.
Wednesdays: Huncote Pavilion.
Thursdays: Stoney Stanton Carey Hill Park and Sapcote Park.
Fridays: Enderby Road Car Park, Blaby.
