Road users warned to check weather forecasts

A snow alert remains in place for Leicestershire today and road users are being warned to check weather forecasts before travelling over the next few days.

The Met Office snow alert for Leicestershire is for Sunday evening and Monday morning.

Road users are being warned to check weather forecasts before travelling as snow is set to fall in parts of Leicestershire

Saturday night will remain dry and clear but it will be frosty with temperatures falling to -2C.

Sunday will start cloudy and dry with a band of snow forecast for parts of the region in the evening. There will be up to 1 to 3 cm of snow in places.

Daytime temperature 0C, falling to -2C at night.

On Monday, an area of sleet and snow is forecast to hit the East Midlands in the early morning, becoming lighter. However, more snow is expected later in the day. Through the day there is the risk of 5 cm of snow in places. Maximum daytime temperature 0C. Night maximum -1C.

More snow showers are expected on Tuesday.

The Highways Agency is advising drivers to be aware of disruption to travel due to the snow and to plan for their journey before they set out.
