Refuse collections in harsh weather

Posted on January 14, 2013 by staff

The Council spends months preparing for the harsh winter weather so services can continue but there are times when it’s too dangerous for crews to go out and collections are disrupted.

Collections are operating as normal. But if the ice and snow does set in overnight or throughout the day leave your bins out as normal. But if you have not had a collection by 4pm bring them back in.

Any bins not emptied will be collected on the households next scheduled collection day (the following week if it was refuse and two weeks later if it is recycling and garden waste).

The decision to suspend collections is not taken lightly and is a last resort after all safety issues have been considered.

A fully loaded truck weights 26 tonnes and is a major safety risk to pedestrians and other road users in snowy or icy conditions.
