Residents of Blaby District who have quit smoking for four weeks or more can take advantage of New Year incentives from the Pavilion Leisure Centre.
200 free one-day passes and personal training taster sessions are available in partnership with Quit Ready Leicestershire, the County Council-run stop smoking service that helps local people to take the leap and stop smoking for free.
A 20% reduction on a gym membership is on offer for residents who quit, with prices starting at just £21.60 per month and a half-price joining fee of £10.
Councillor Iain Hewson, Portfolio Holder for Health Improvement, Leisure and Regulatory Services, said:
“We’re proud to be working with Quit Ready Leicestershire. We want to give the maximum amount of help to those who are quitting smoking by improving their overall health and our taster sessions and free passes will help people get a taste of the healthy lifestyle they can enjoy.
“Our discounted membership is the same as just four packets of cigarettes, with smokers of 20 a day able to save around £225 a month if they quit.”
Zaheera Chatra, Quit Ready’s Service Manager, said:
“It’s great that we have been able to link up with the Pavilion Leisure Centre for the New Year. It’s the most popular time for people to quit smoking.”
“It’s our chance to make those New Year resolutions permanent and to give people the best chances of quitting smoking and take advantage of the burst of energy they will feel if they stop smoking for good!”
