Public Sector Unions’ Strike Action

Public sector unions have called a one-day strike on Wednesday 30th November to protect their member’s pension provision.

In a statement published on its website, the District Council states that during the strike action the council will endeavour to maintain services. The statement continues:

The Council will make every effort to offer a full refuse and recycling collection and residents are being asked to put out their refuse and recycling as normal.

If your refuse is not collected on Wednesday 30th November, a double refuse collection will take place on the following Wednesday.

Excess refuse will be taken on this day only, provided it is placed at the side of the bin in suitable containers i.e. bags. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience that this may cause.

The Council’s main offices in Narborough will be open to the public as usual from 9.30 to 17.15.

All information points will be manned.

Visitors may experience some small delays, however every effort will be made to maintain normal customer service levels.

Residents may experience delays in telephones being answered but can use alternative methods of contacting the Council such as email (

Payment can be made via the Council’s 24 hour telephone payment line 0116 272 7722, online via the council’s website or at your local Post Office or Paypoint provided you have been issued with a bill.

Due to industrial action on 30th November the following libraries will be affected:

  • Oadby Library will close at 5pm instead of 8pm
  • Loughborough Library will close at 5pm instead of 8pm
