The Olympic flame will arrive in Leicester on 2nd July and will be carried through the city centre to a special event in Abbey Park.
The torch will then leave Leicester on the 3rd July, heading north out of the city. To enable people to enjoy the torch’s visit safely and minimise hold-ups, a rolling road closure will be used on both days which will temporarily affect bus services including the Park & Rides.
Passengers are advised to allow plenty of time for their journeys and be aware that there may be delays.
Monday 2nd July 2012 Service 103 (Meynell’s Gorse) will operate as normal until 5pm. From this time the buses will only operate between Meynell’s Gorse and St. Nicholas Place – stops on Haymarket and Causeway Lane will not be served. When the roads in the city centre re-open and clear from approximately 6.40pm, Haymarket and Causeway Lane will then be served.
Service 203 (Birstall – city centre – Enderby) will operate as normal until approximately 2pm when stops on Belgrave Gate (Leicester College) will not be served due to the closure of Abbey Park Road. From 5pm buses will only serve Enderby site to St. Nicholas Place (via Grove Park) and return, and Birstall site to St. Nicholas Place and return until the roads re-open and clear; stops on St. Peter’s Lane will not be served during this time. If you wish to make a through journey (e.g. from Grove Park to Birstall) you may need to change buses at St. Nicholas Place.
