One way scheme on Townsend Road – it’s here!

Posted on June 27, 2019June 27, 2019 by staff

After consistent lobbying by Enderby Parish Council, a one-way scheme has been introduced on Townsend Road.

The County Council Highways Department erected the requisite signage on Thursday 27th June.

The move comes after repeated requests for a solution to the problem of traffic meeting ‘head on’ when travelling along Townsend Road toward its junction with Cross Street or passing from Cross Street along Townsend Road towards George Street.

Former Enderby Parish Councillor Mike King, who stood down at the May 2019 elections just as the traffic order was approved, had spent seven plus years campaigning for the scheme.

At the same time, new double yellow lines on Shortridge Lane just past the junction with Salts Close and Kipling Drive junction with West Street, have also been introduced.

The actions follow on from an on-going appraisal of traffic flow through the village.

The Parish Council are continually in touch with the County Council regarding efforts to ease a number of problems with traffic through the village.
