Two athletes who took part in the 2012 Games will be sharing their inspirational stories with local school children, sport teams and community groups during their visit to the district.
Olympic Swimmer Ross Davenport and Olympic Team GB Basketball Captain Drew Sullivan will also be running some practical workshops for people to take part in.
Ross is visiting Enderby Leisure Centre on Tuesday April 30, 3-4pm, during which the public will have the chance to have a coffee and a chat with the Olympian.
During the day he will also coach local swim lessons at the leisure centre, have Q+A sessions with pupils from CountesthorpeCollege, BrockingtonCollege, and RedHillField Primary School, and run a motivational workshop with Leicester Sharks Swimming Club.
Drew will be at the Pavilion in Huncote on Thursday May 23, 1-3 pm, where he will be sharing his inspirational Olympic journey with primary school children that took part in the recent district basketball league, followed by a practical skills workshop.
Claire Jarvis, Sports and Recreation Development Officer at Blaby District Council, said:
“It is fantastic that both Ross and Drew are able to take part in the roadshow and share their knowledge with sporting enthusiasts in our district. It will be interesting to hear about their Olympic experiences and I hope it will inspire people to follow in their footsteps in their chosen sport.”
The athletes are visiting as part of the Leicestershire and Rutland Sports Olympic and Paralympic Roadshow, a programme of visits that has been coordinated by Leicester-Shire and Rutland Sport and supported by Inspire LeicesterShire 2012 Legacy Team.
These events have been coordinated with Blaby District Council and the School Sports Partnership.
Andy Reed OBE, Chairman of Leicester-Shire & Rutland Sport, said:
“LRS and Inspire LeicesterShire are delighted that our 2012 Olympians, Paralympians, Games Makers and Torchbearers have found the time to visit some of our Leicestershire clubs and schools.
“These visits are for the people of the county, giving them the opportunity to hear ‘first hand’ the stories of both athletes and volunteers alike, and inspire everyone to achieve their very own legacy from London 2012.”
