Tales of Leicestershire's silver screens

26 July 2010

The golden age of our silver screens will be looked back on by an expert in local cinemas during a talk at Blaby Library.

Brian Johnson is a local history expert and author and he will helping people to re-live or perhaps discover for the first time, the joys of the cinema era.

In Britain during the 1930s 20 million people a week went to their local ‘flicks’ to watch their favourite stars. There was a cinema in virtually every community; in Leicester there were 28, with a further 51 around the county.

Brian has spent the last 25 years researching and recording the old cinemas of Leicestershire after he realised many of the old buildings were fast disappearing, and his talk on their history and legacy should be fascinating.

The talk takes place at Blaby Library on Monday August 2nd, between 7pm and 8pm. Tickets cost £2 each and include refreshments. Tickets can be bought from Blaby library in person, or phoning on 0116 3053516.
