Once again it is that time of year when people are planning to go on their summer holidays, but everyone wants to come home to find everything as they left it.
Simply following the advice below can make homes more secure while occupants are away.
Make sure the home looks occupied - ask a neighbour to collect the mail, water plants, feed pets etc. They could even occasionally park their car on the driveway. Anything to make the place looked lived in
Don't leave curtains closed in the day time.
Use an automatic timer-switch to turn lights on when it gets dark.
Cancel any deliveries like milk or newspapers and don't leave valuables, like a TV, laptop or DVD player, where people can see them through the windows
Lock all external doors and windows and if a property is fitted with a burglar alarm, make sure it is set!
Make sure that there is up-to-date household insurance and make it difficult for burglars by locking all side or back gates. Fit lights that come on at night to cover the sides and back of the house.
Place all tools away so they cannot be used to break in and lock garages and sheds with proper security locks.
Do not put a name and address on luggage when travelling to holiday destinations.

It might not have been a good month for the England football team but there has in fact been two 'good news' stories in respect of detection......
Forensic Identification have produced 162 fingerprint identifications - the second best monthly total ever.
Plus, as a result the Forensic Intelligence Officers and Detectives working with the Serious Aquisitive Crime Teams on Area have achieved 78 fingerprint identification detections during June, the highest monthly total since April 2006 and quite possibly since records began in 2001.
