Police and Customs Officers Make Arrests

At about 09.30 hours yesterday (Thursday) morning, officers from HM Customs and Excise and Police Officers from Blaby Police station executed a warrant at an address in Aston Flamville, Leicestershire.

This search was in connection with evasion of excise duty on tobacco products.

It was a joint agency search of land and outbuildings to identify evidence of serious criminal offences.

As a result of enquiries a further search of a house took place in Broughton Astley where it was discovered a quantity of Cannabis Plants were being cultivated.

Two persons were arrested and remain in Police custody whilst enquiries are conducted by HMCE and Police.

It is estimated that in excess of 1500 Kilograms of tobacco was seized with a tax evasion value estimated at £189,000.

Blaby Local Policing Unit Commander Insp Jon Brown said;

"The Police and other government agencies will seek every opportunity to disrupt criminal activity and where possible seek to recover assets gained from a criminal lifestyle".
