Everards have teamed up with Zululand Brewery to bring a taste of South Africa to pub goers across the UK as they cheer on the World Cup tournament.
Zulu Blonde ale recently featured in JD Wetherspoons’ international ale festival, and was voted No 1 Best Ale by customers.
Also voted into the 10 of the 50 beers were two Everards brews, Flourish and Val Dieu Abbaye Blonde.
Everards played host to Richard Chennels to brew at least 70,000 pints of Zululand Blonde at its Enderby brewery. This is compared to only around 5,000 pints per month that Richard normally brews at Zululand’s brewery in South Africa.
Brewer and co-founder of Zululand Brewery Richard Chennels said:
“This is a fantastic showcase for my beer and I’m delighted to have the opportunity to brew at Everards.
"I’m absolutely certain Wetherspoons pub goers will enjoy a second opportunity to drink my beer, this time while they enjoy the World Cup.”
Zululand Blonde is a typical blonde style beer and uses wheat malt and a small amount of barley to deliver a light and not-too-fruity taste.
Everards Operations Director Nick Arthur said:
“We are delighted to welcome Richard to our brewery.
"We have enjoyed hosting many international brewers and it’s been great fun on each occasion.
"All the beers produced have been very different - an extremely hoppy beer from Epic, New Zealand, a beautifully balanced beer at a sessionable abv from Galbraith’s, New Zealand and a full bodied Abbey style beer from Val Dieu in Belgium."
Richard is a former stockbroker who changed direction by studying with The American Brewers Guild and returning to Eshowe in South Africa in 2005 to set up The Zululand Brewing Co, with his father Graham at the family hotel.
