Thousands of school children across Leicestershire will be enjoying a World Cup lunch this week thanks to a special menu designed to celebrate the big event.
Crouch’s cheesy pasta bake, Rooney’s golden roasties and Lampard’s leafy salad are but a few of the culinary delights on offer to keep children in the spirit of all things football!
A late addition to the menu is Rob Green’s bread and butter ‘fingers’ pudding!
Staff and pupils at Ravenhurst Primary School in Braunstone are going one step further by having a lunchtime full of football fun and activities this week on Friday.
The school is encouraging youngsters to eat a healthy and balanced school meal whilst keeping fit in the process.
Other dishes on the menu include Gerard’s Garlic Bread and Fabio’s Fruity Flapjack.
Children at the school will be adorned in support of their favourite football teams and will join in with a game involving a giant inflatable ball, dribbling practice and have a go at keepy-uppy!
Almost 20,000 school dinners are served each day in Leicestershire schools and around 150 schools will be offering the special menu. Leicestershire County Council has had responsibility for the provision of school meals since May 2008.
The Council’s School Food Support Service has since shown how fresh food cooked on the premises can improve the health, wellbeing and whole school experience for young people in Leicestershire.
Nicola Webb , Headteacher at Ravenhurst Primary School, said:
"The children are really excited about the world cup and we wanted to give them an experience they will always remember.
"Our Midday Manager, Deb Mrugatroyd has been fantastic in organising the activities at lunchtime and the whole midday team is getting involved.
"Staff and pupils will be wearing their football shirts and there will be competitions for children to win an England kit."
Ivan Ould, Cabinet Member for Leicestershire County Council’s Children and Young People’s Service, said:
"Leicestershire schools provide a good range of healthy and nutritious school meals and this is a fantastic way of getting children interested in what they eat whilst having a bit of fun along the way.
"The World Cup has an impact on us all and I’m pleased that schools are getting involved."

Around 150 schools will be offering the special menu
