Police appeal for witnesses to allotment shed arson

09 June 2010

Police are appealing for witnesses to a second attack on an allotment in a month.

Last month a number of sheds were damaged on the allotment site at Mill Lane, Enderby.

In the early hours of Friday 11 June two sheds on one of the plots previously attacked were burned and destroyed. Replacing them will cost at least £500.

Inspector Jon Brown, commander of Blaby local policing unit, said:

“We are taking this very seriously, and treating this latest attack as arson.

“We have some lines of enquiry which we will be following up, but I would appeal to anyone who saw anything suspicious on or before either attack to contact us or Crimestoppers.

“The damage caused by the fires is particularly upsetting. Whoever did this walked past many other sheds without touching them. We are considering whether the owners were targeted deliberately.”

Police were informed about the fires just after 5am today. Both sheds and their contents – tools and garden furniture – were destroyed.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact PCSO 6121 Sophie Howard on Leicester (0116) 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officer’s identification number 6121.

Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous, on 0800 555 111.
