Talking penguin to open arts festival

09 June 2010

Five weeks of creativity and culture begin on June 12 with the launch of Blaby Arts Festival 2010.

The festival is themed around children and young people and the safety, strength and health of communities in the district.

Groups from across Blaby have organised events including a flower festival, folk dance, musical garden party, and a willow weaving workshop.

Councillor Karl Coles, health and community services portfolio holder at Blaby District Council, said:

“Our district is home to some fantastically talented groups and individuals and this festival is a great chance to showcase those skills and encourage others to get involved.”

A puppet show based on Polly Dunbar’s ‘Penguin’ kicks off the five week event at Enderby Leisure Centre this Saturday (June 12).

The play, aimed at 3-5 year olds, is based on an award winning children’s book that tells the story of a toy that learns to talk.

A free puppet making workshop will also take place before the performance from 12-2pm at the leisure centre on Mill Lane.

For more information on the festival or to request an events guide call 0116 272 7703 or email leisure@blaby.gov.uk
