Community Action Fund for Youth (CAFFY) is a small local charity that was set up by the then Chairman of Blaby District Council, Roy Dixon in 1997 to help support youth groups in the district.
The charity assists groups and organisations to improve and expand activities and facilities available to young people by providing grants up to the sum of £1,200.
Anyone looking to start a new group or activity, but who needs help kick-starting the project or need help towards buying materials or equipment, then why not apply for a grant and see if CAFFY can lend a helping hand to get the project off the ground.
Among the many groups that CAFFY has helped are Enderby Band, rugby clubs, football clubs, Scouts, drama groups, schools, and riding schools.
The grants CAFFY provides will only pay for part of the total cost of a project; the group will have to fund the remainder itself - this is known as match funding.
This can either be done through fundraising or CAFFY will consider in-kind contributions e.g. in the time of people involved in the project.
The Trustees of CAFFY believe it is important for young people to be actively involved in the fundraising and running of their own projects.
In doing the youngsters will be more appreciative of the support they are given and will not think of it as a hand out.
