Puppet show to spark Blaby Arts Festival

10 May 2010

A puppet show based on an award winning children’s book has been chosen to launch the Blaby Arts Festival on June 12.

The performance of Polly Dunbar’s ‘Penguin’ at Enderby Leisure Centre, tells the story of a toy that learns to talk and will also form part of the Spark Children’s Festival, which runs from May 31- June 13.

The Blaby Arts Festival is themed around children and young people and the safety, strength and health of communities.

The annual Spark Children’s Art Festival is a two week summer event with performances, activities and visual arts shows aimed at youngsters from 0-13 taking place across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

The play, which will be performed by the Long Nose Puppets, is aimed at 3-5 year olds and youngsters will get the chance to meet the miniature stars of the show after it has finished.

A free puppet making workshop will also take place before the performance from 12-2pm at the leisure centre on Mill Lane.

Councillor Karl Coles, health and community services portfolio holder at Blaby District Council, said:

“This show has had some great reviews so I’m really pleased the Council are able to offer families the chance to go and see it, and it marks the start of what I hope will be a fantastic five weeks of celebrating art in Blaby.”

The show begins at 3.30 pm and tickets are £2.50 for children, £4 for adults or £10 for a family ticket (two children and two adults).
