The Enderby Youth Band have become the latest recipients of a donation from the Waitrose "Community Matters" Charity Scheme.

On Wednesday 10th March, representatives of the Band were presented with a cheque for £353 by staff at Waitrose in Blaby.

Under the charitable scheme, customers of Waitrose can nominate worthy causes, and three are selected each month to receive a share of £1,000.

Each customer receives a token when they shop at Waitrose, which they can place in a box for the cause that they wish to support.

The shares are then calculated on the basis of the number of tokens each cause receives.

The scheme was piloted in Wokingham, and was such a success that it has been rolled out nationwide.

Musical Director of the Enderby Youth Band Trevor Hounsome said:

"We are delighted to receive this donation from Waitrose, which will help provide new instruments and defray the costs we incur in travelling to contests.

"Many thanks to Waitrose for their support".

The entire Swinging Sixties entertainment programme performed by the Band at the Opera House in Blackpool recently is now on their You Tube channel.
