Employment event offers routes back to work

02 February 2010

An employment fair aimed at getting people back into work will be held at Braunstone Civic Centre, Kingsway, on Wednesday 10th February 2010.

The Opportunities 4 Jobs event, organised by Blaby District Council, will see local employers looking for new recruits and a host of agencies providing information and advice to help the unemployed and those facing redundancy find work.

Welcome break, who recently announced the opening of a new Waitrose store at the Junction 21 services in Leicester Forest East, will be recruiting for sales assistants and managers to work across their retail outlets.

The event will run from 1pm until 4.30pm and will offer advice on training and adult education courses, starting a new business venture, benefit allowances, interview and job application skills as well as volunteering options.

Councillor Jackie Dickinson, growth, development and assets portfolio holder said:

"Unemployment is a concern in this area so it is important that the Council works with partners to come up with the right solutions to support local people.

"The aim of this event is to offer a hand of support to those struck by the economic downturn who now need help to find routes back into work."

Organisations attending so far include Blaby District Council’s benefits, resident support and human resources teams, Community Action Blaby District, Business Link, Leicestershire Adult Learning Service, Family Information Service, Early Learning and Childcare Service, Connexions, Apex, Remploy, Uniec, Intraining, Pertemps, South Leics College, Job Centre Plus, Acorn Training, Voluntary Action Leicestershire, Randstad and Welcome Break.
