Council refuses to be 'beaten by bad weather'

11 January 2010

After snow and ice disrupted bin collections last week Blaby District Council is taking extra measures to make sure every resident gets a full scheduled refuse collection this week.

Despite the extreme conditions last week the refuse and recycling team managed to collect from 65% of houses on Wednesday and Thursday and 95% of properties on Friday.

They are now making efforts to ensure that the remaining households get their refuse collections this week.

The district council will be surveying all areas today and if necessary will arrange for the worst affected roads to be gritted in an effort to make sure that people who have gone three weeks without a refuse collection will not be missed again.

Residents are also reminded to put their recycling out on their next scheduled collection date.

Kevin Pegg, neighbourhood services group manager at Blaby District Council said:

"We will do everything we can to get into the areas we haven’t managed to collect from yet, which includes hiring contractors in order to get the roads gritted ourselves."

Anyone with queries concerning their refuse and recycling collections should telephone 0116 272 7555.
