Office move to help joint attack on anti-social behaviour

08 January 2010   [Contributor: Mich Bingham]

A police officer has moved her desk into Blaby District Council's main offices to partner their community safety team in a co-ordinated attack on anti-social behaviour.

PC Kal Uppal from Blaby Police Station found working closely with her council colleagues so effective that she decided to join them permanently and is now based in their offices for two days a week.

Councillor Ted Webster-Williams, community partnerships and engagement portfolio holder said:

"Tackling anti-social behaviour is so important for both the police and council so working together is key now.

"This approach shows victims that as a partnership we are working to resolve problems together rather than on our own."

The police and council have worked closely on fighting crime since the Community Safety Partnership was formed in 2004, but both organisations predict having a dedicated police anti-social behaviour officer at the council will take the relationship to a new level and enable a faster, more co-ordinated response to dealing with anti-social behaviour.

The Blaby District Community Safety Partnership brings together a collection of people and organisations that are committed to reducing crime, the fear of crime and to work closely alongside local communities in bringing about a sense of safety for all.

The primary purpose of the partnership is to make the district of Blaby a safer place in which to live, work and to visit.

Anyone wishing to report anti-social behaviour can call Blaby District Council's hotline on Tel: 0116 272 7677.
