Snow and ice is again affecting refuse and recycling collections in Blaby district.
The Council's refuse collection staff have been out on their rounds attempting to make collections in nearby Thorpe Astley, Braunstone and Leicester Forest East. Today, the same effort is going into Blaby, Countesthorpe, Kilby and Glen Parva.
As the area shivered in the coldest snap for decades, a spokesperson for Blaby District Council said:
"Snow and ice on roads and pavements makes it extremely hazardous to collect and we are not prepared to risk the safety of residents or staff.
"A fully loaded refuse truck weighs 26 tonnes and is a major safety risk in these weather conditions."
Earlier this week Enderby was fortunate enough to have had a domestic refuse collection completed despite treacherous conditions, although some re-cycle collections were completed some time later than normal.
Bearing in mind the prevailing icy conditions, residents are asked to leave their bins out, but if they have not had a collection by 5.00pm they should bring them back in.
Any refuse and recycling not picked up this week due to bad weather will be collected as additional waste on the next scheduled collection day - which is listed on the refuse and recycling calendar that was delivered to households before Christmas, and also available on the council's website at www.blaby.gov.uk.
Anyone with queries concerning their refuse and recycling collections should call 0116 272 7555.
Responsibility for roads and pavements in the area should be directed to the County Council, and enquiries can be made on Tel 0116 305 0001.
Information about using the County's roads during the bad weather can be viewed on the County Council's website (see link below).
