An award-winning company founded in 1985 and which has its base in nearby Grange Business Park, off Enderby Road, Whetstone, has been given £6.1 million of Government funding as part of a scheme to build more affordable homes.

The Government's Housing Corporation has awarded Westleigh Developments almost £1 million more than any other company.

The money comes as part of the Corporation's £8.4 billion National Affordable Housing Programme (NAHP), which takes place over 3/4yrs between 2008 and 2011.

The investment programme is the largest undertaken in the Corporation's history and aims to provide 155,000 new affordable homes.

Westleigh's Partnership Homes division will use the funding to build homes for housing associations across the East Midlands.

Westleigh's head of partnerships, Gary Turner, has told local media the firm is delighted with the allocation they have received.

The company was named as 'Business of the Year' at the recent Leicestershire Business Awards, designed to raise the aspirations of local businesses and stimulate healthy competition.

Westleigh also won the Success Through People category at a glittering ceremony held at De Montfort Hall in Leicester.

The awards complete a hat trick for the firm after a Westleigh Development was awarded Commercial Project of the Year in the Builder and Engineer Awards 2007 at the end of last year.
