Maypole Fun for Blaby Farmers' Market

03 May 2008

Shoppers at Blaby Farmers' Market will be treated to a display of Maypole Dancing at the next market on Saturday 24th May.

A team of young dancers, trained and taking instruction from Patsy Paterson at Greenfield Primary School, Countesthorpe will add extra local interest and community flavour to the market when the Maypole Dancing starts at 10.30am.

The Farmers' Market runs from 9am until 1.30pm in the car park of Blaby Social Centre, Leicester Road just a stroll from Blaby Town Centre and is proving to be a great success.

Shoppers have the chance to buy a tempting selection of tastes from the countryside including local vegetables, meat, cheese, honey, cakes, pies, eggs, bread and flour.

Farmers' markets give growers and producers the chance to sell their fresh local produce in person directly to the public while purchasers can be sure where the food has come from and also learn more about its production from the producers.

Cllr Ernie White, Leader of Blaby District Council commented,

"I am delighted the Farmers' Market is working well.

"By taking this opportunity to buy local produce shoppers are supporting farmers and Blaby Town Centre.

"I hope shoppers will turn out to enjoy the Maypole Dancing."

Market organisers, Blaby District Council and partners Leicestershire Food Links are planning the next market for Saturday June 28th which will feature a display of work by local artists inside Blaby Social Centre.
