24 April 2008
A Dog Control Order was issued to Mr Tony Gamble of nearby Braunstone Town by Leicester Magistrates Court on Friday 18th April 2008.
The order requires that his Staffordshire Bull Terrier, "Nipper" must be kept muzzled and on a lead whilst it is in a public place.
The court found that the order was necessary as Mr Gamble had failed to keep the dog under proper control.
The application by the Council for the Control Order listed four occasions when Nipper had attacked and injured other dogs whilst in public places.
Other instances of attacks had also previously been reported to the Council.
The Council's Dog Warden had visited Mr Gamble to offer him advice on controlling his dog and supplied him with a muzzle. However he did not use it and further incidents occurred and were reported.
Councillor Guy Jackson, Cabinet member with responsibility for the Natural and Built Environment said:
"All dogs should be under control at all times, so that they are not threat to other people or their animals.
"I fully support our staff in their efforts to promote responsible dog ownership.
"Prosecution is a last resort, however, as in this case, we will not hesitate to take action where necessary."
£100 in costs were also awarded against Mr Gamble.
