18 March 2008
The Council are required to prepare a Core Strategy as part of their Local Development Framework (LDF).
The Core Strategy is intended to set out the vision, objectives and strategic policies for the Spatial Planning of the District.
A Core Strategy (Issues and Options / Preferred options) was the subject of consultation in 2006.
Following the emergence of the Regional Plan, ongoing evidence gathering and representations from Government Office for the East Midlands additional work on the Core Strategy is being pursued.
The Core Strategy (CS) (Issues and Options) is not intended to identify specific sites for development, it will however, identify broad locations for ‘strategic growth’ (such as Sustainable Urban Extensions) and which other settlements are suitable for accommodating additional development.
In addition it will set the broad policy direction that will affect future policies and proposals. The CS will cover the period up to 2026.
Your views are being sought on a number of planning Issues and a series of options for addressing these between 13th March and 10th April 2008.
The Council will take account of representations received at this, and previous, stages of consultation in subsequent drafts.
The next formal stage of consultation (preferred options) will take place between July and September 2008 for a period of 6 weeks. At this time, the document will be the subject of wider public participation.
The Core Strategy (issues and options) paper (version 2) is available for viewing online (see link below).
An electronic response form is also available for to complete online and e-mail to the Council.
Electronic responses (using the web-based electronic response form) would be preferred to paper copies - in the interests of saving paper and ease of recording representations.
Representations should be received no later than 5pm on 10th April 2008.
Copies of the document will also be available at:
