Police are appealing for witnesses after a suspicious incident on Station Road in the nearby village of Elmsthorpe.
The incident happened at about 8.20am on Tuesday, February 26 when a man in a white transit style van stopped in the road and asked a 10-year-old girl to get into his vehicle. The girl refused and ran home where she told her parents what had happened. She was uninjured in the incident.
The suspect is described as a white man, aged around 25 -years-old of slim build, with balding hair and he had an Irish accent.
The vehicle is described as a white transit style van with a leather gear stick, silver tax disc holder and a green air freshener hanging in the rear view mirror.
Detective Sergeant Alison Pledger, who is investigating the incident, said: "The girl involved in this incident was not hurt but was understandably shaken. She did exactly the right thing by going straight home and informing her parents about what happened.
"It is not clear what the man's motive was.
"We want to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident and saw anything suspicious. Did you see the girl running away? Perhaps you saw the man making off from the scene?
"I would encourage anyone who has any information about this incident to please get in touch."
Anyone with any information is asked to contact DS 4097 Alison Pledger on Leicester (0116) 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for an officer and when prompted key in his identification number 4097.
