The Leicestershire Speakers are a friendly and welcoming group of men and women from varied walks of life.
The group mutually assists each other to improve their own public speaking skills - aided by a handbook which sets out various speaking techniques.
At this month's meeting of the Leicestershire Speakers at The Drop-in Centre in Blaby, the evening started with a reading by Anne Jones, of an excerpt from Bill Bryson's book, "Down Under".
Frank Kovacs entertained with his polished speech entitled Rudolph's Magic - not as you might imagine, the story of the famous reindeer, but about a magician and his endeavours to outwit occupying forces in Czechoslovakia.
Josie Bicker's speech centered around her childhood and families divided during World War II brought back memories and enlightenment for old and young respectively.
Ruta Parris spoke about 'space', something everyone needs from time to time. This subject was carried forward into the 'topics session', when ten members were asked for short dissertations on various aspects of "...what life would be like in 100 years time".
The Leicestershire Speakers meet between 7.30 p.m and 10.00pm on the second Wednesday of each month at The Drop-in Centre, Welford Road, Blaby.
Anyone interested in joining the Leicestershire Speakers group can attend 3 meetings without any commitment or charge! Full Membership of the group is just £20 a year and there are special rates for students.
