Former Littlethorpe resident, Lee Symons, died as he went in for emergency surgery on the day he was diagnosed with leukaemia.
Mr Symons, 39, died of cancer hours after visiting a doctor complaining of a sore throat.
Mr Symons left Littlethorpe in 2000 returning to live in his home town of Mabe, Cornwall and take up a position teaching science having spent 10 years working for the Leicester Mercury newspaper, helping with computer systems in newsagents.
On Mr Symons tragic passing, the Leicester Mercury reported that his father, Bryan, 71, from Falmouth, said the whole family was heartbroken.
The report went on to quote Mr Symons Snr.:
"The kids at the school he taught in are completely devastated ...
"They said he made science fun for them. He was really popular.
"It was very sudden. They diagnosed the cancer the day he died. The doctor had put him on penicillin a while back, but he didn't get better.
"Then his neck got badly swollen and he was struggling to breathe.
"I said he had to see his doctor right away and his doctor sent him straight to hospital.
"They said 'We have bad news, he has leukaemia'.
"On his way into the operating theatre that evening, he had a bad turn and, at 8pm, he had died.
"It was so tragic and sudden. We didn't have time to think about it."
Lee Symons is survived by his wife Liz and three year old son, Tristan.
The family would like to collect happy or funny memories and stories about Lee for a scrapbook.
They can be sent to Sylvia Symons at 30, Tregenver Road, Falmouth TR11 2QW.
