A successful scheme to stage live performances in Leicestershire's village venues has received a £39,000 boost.
Centre Stage, which brings professional shows to more than 9,000 people per year, is set to expand, after the Arts Council raised its funding to £132,000 over the next three years.
In October last year, Centre Stage brought 2 exciting productions to local audiences in Enderby and Countesthorpe.
In November the Oxford Touring Theatre Company presented Dylan Thomas' Under Milk Wood at Enderby Civic Centre.
Later the same month, the New Perspectives Theatre Company presented 'The Hired Man' by Melvyn Bragg and Howard Goodall, at Countesthorpe Village Hall.
Centre Stage performances range from drama and dance to comedy and cabaret.
Ernie White, arts spokesman on Leicestershire County Council's Cabinet, said:
"Centre Stage has been a massive success, bringing top quality productions to the heart of our villages.
"I'm pleased that more people will be treated to even more events, right on their doorsteps."
Funded by the Arts Council, Leicestershire County Council, the District Councils and Rutland County Council, Centre Stage has been running for six years.
It relies on teams of village volunteers, who promote the shows, sell the tickets and ensure the events run well.
