Police are investigating the circumstances surround a collision on the B4114 in Enderby involving a police vehicle and a blue Jaguar S-type.
The incident happened at around 5am yesterday morning close to the turning for Leicester Lane.
The driver and passenger in the police vehicle, both male police officers, were taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary. The driver of has since been discharged, the passenger's injuries are not believed to be serious.
The driver of the Jaguar received minor injuries and did not require hospital treatment.
The circumstances surrounding the collision are still under investigation but contrary to earlier media reports officers have confirmed that the police car was not turning out of Force Headquarters at the time of the collision nor was it pursuing the Jaguar.
The city bound carriageway was closed to allow for investigation of the scene and to repair damage to traffic lights and other road furniture.
The B4114 reopened at 9.26am but Leicester Lane remained closed for a period to traffic using the filter lane opposite the Force Headquarters to enable engineers to repair damaged traffic lights
The incident will be referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) as is standard procedure in these cases.
Officers investigating the collision are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or events leading up to it.
