Local 'car clockers' have £370,000 confiscated

At a proceeds of crime hearing at Leicester Crown Court, a father and son who dealt in second-hand cars have had more than £370,000 worth of assets confiscatedsold after they sold vehicles with clocked mileages.

Earlier this year, a court heard that the defendants, Anthony and Tyrone Leadeatt, sold cars with the mileage clocks turned back by as much as 100,000 miles.

The Leicester Mercury reports that Anthony Leadeatt (47) is facing having to sell his home in Blaby Road, Enderby, after being ordered to hand over £82,394.

The paper also reports that Tyrone Leadeatt (27), formerly of Lancelot Close, Leicester Forest East, was ordered by a judge to hand over £291,000 within six months or face an extra three years in jail - on top of the two-and-a-half year term he received for his crimes.

Judge Simon Hammond ordered that £20,174 was to go towards compensating victims.

The Mercury report also says forged MoT certificates and false service histories were provided by the pair, who admitted 17 trade description and fraud charges relating to the sale of five cars, in 2006.

Anthony Leadeatt was also sentenced for possessing four ounces of cocaine and Tyrone was involved in three thefts of loans.
