12 hour RPM/Spin Challenge

Couple aim to raise money for Coping with Cancer charity

04 November 2008

Terry and Karen Wootton

Terry Wootton was diagnosed with Bowel Cancer a little over a year ago, on October 24th 2007.

He underwent operations and has had radiotherapy as well as several treatments of chemotherapy.

Terry wrote to the EYE telling us that his wife Karen has organised a 12 hour RPM Challenge on December 13th 2008 at Enderby Leisure Centre, in aid of the 'Coping with Cancer' charity.

Terry (pictured left with wife Karen) says:

"I am hoping to have an operation to remove the tumor, this has been unsuccessful in the past but, the chemotherapy has reduced the size of the tumor and with a bit of luck an operation will be possible"

There are approximately 17 people doing the whole 12 hours and are training hard for the event.

Anyone interested can turn up on the day to do an hour or more, on a first come first served basis - in exchange for a donation to the charity!

The couple aim to raise funds for 'Coping with Cancer', the charity who has helped both of them cope with the trauma of Terry's Bowel cancer.

If you are not up for the challenge but would like to donate, a donation can be made via Terry's page on the 'mycharitypage.com' website (see link at base of page).

Alternatively people may donate on the day of the event at Enderby leisure Centre, Mill Lane, Enderby, Leicester LE19 4LX.

Terry and Karen are also looking to do a raffle on the day to raise further funds, and any raffle prize donations would be appreciated!

The charity 'Coping with Cancer' exists to help the people of Leicestershire and Rutland cope with the practical and emotional problems which can arise following a cancer diagnosis.

The charity encourage a positive attitude, with an emphasis on the quality of life for each individual affected by cancer.

The charity...

Coping with Cancer

At any one time, Coping with Cancer supports over 350 cancer patients, their families, carers or those bereaved through cancer in Leicestershire and Rutland.

It currently costs £18,000 per month to maintain their current services and whilst funding from the local Primary Care Trust is their main source of income, the charity needs to raise an additional £50,000 per annum from fundraising and donations to meet an ever-increasing demand for its services.
