Some residents in Enderby were evacuated from their homes for a period on Wednesday afternoon as police and army experts descended on a house in Trinity Road.
Police were quick to assure residents that the action was not related to any terrorist threat or activity. A police spokeswoman explained that police had attended an address in Trinity Road at about 1pm as part of an on-going criminal investigation.
The statement went on to say "Army experts were called to the address after officers searching the premises discovered a quantity of ammunition and other items. A number of nearby properties were evacuated and the street was closed off."
The area remained closed for around three hours whilst a quantity of ammunition, including an anti-tank missile (a 'practice' weapon, subsequently found to be inert), was made safe for transportation.
The police raid was made following the arrest of a 62 year old man and was part of an ongoing investigation. No further details have been released.
