New Lubbesthorpe shortlisted for national award

Posted on November 2, 2018November 2, 2018 by staff

Blaby District Council has been named as a finalist in the LGC (Local Goverment Chronicle) Awards for Enderby’s neighbour, the New Lubbesthorpe Development.

Shortlisted in the Housing Initiative category, the LGC Awards look at local authorities devising imaginative solutions to ease problems, including a shortage of both market and affordable housing, by accelerating house building and enabling home ownership.

New Lubbesthorpe will be built over the next 20 years and have 4,250 homes on completion.

The Council has ensured that 873 of these will be affordable homes.

Nearly 200 properties are now occupied and up to 315 homes a year will be completed.

Featuring over 300 acres of open space, New Lubbesthorpe will also have a district centre with community, health and leisure facilities as well a secondary school and two primary schools.

The first primary school is under construction and set to open in September 2019.

The Council’s commitment to employment, skills and training in the district have seen placements, apprenticeships and work experience secured for local people on the New Lubbesthorpe development, enabling them to start their careers.

Phase One of the strategic employment site is largely completed, and the remainder will be built in the coming years, bringing thousands of new jobs to the district.

Councillor Sheila Scott, Portfolio Holder for Planning, Housing Strategy, Economic & Community Development, said: “New Lubbesthorpe’s shortlist for a national award is fantastic recognition for all our staff and partners who have worked so hard to make it the success it has been so far. New Lubbesthorpe is already a thriving community which will grow in the coming years.

“The great partnership working with house builders and the landowners has seen us deliver a first class development that further enhances the district as a place to live, work and visit. I’m looking forward to the awards in March to find out the result.”

The winners will be announced at the 2019 LGC Awards on Wednesday 13 March. More information about New Lubbesthorpe can be found at www.blaby.gov.uk/lubbesthorpe.
