Councillor David Clements was sworn in as chairman of Blaby District Council at its annual meeting last Tuesday (May 27th).
The new chair is taking over from Councillor Alan Tanner and has chosen to support LOROS and the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance during his term in office.
Councillor Clements has represented Forest Ward (Leicester Forest East) on Blaby District Council for the last 14 years and over the last 8 years has been a member of the ruling Cabinet Executive with portfolio responsibilities for performance and leisure.
This will be the Councillor’s first term as chairman at the Council, he said:
“I am proud and honoured to be made Chairman and will continue to do my best to represent the Council and its residents during my year in office.”
Councillor Clements is a resident of Kirby Muxloe where he lives with his wife Joan, and though not a native of Leicestershire, spent many years of his working life in the construction materials industry closely associated with the Leicestershire quarries.
The new Chairman will be pleased to attend any events that organisations may be planning over the coming year.

At the same annual meeting Councillor Marion Broomhead was named as vice Chairman for the coming year.
