Choir and theatre group for youngsters in Broughton Astley

Posted on August 30, 2011December 12, 2011 by staff

‘Musical Village’ is a family of adult and children’s community choirs and musical theatre youth groups based in Leicestershire.

It has been set up with the intention to bring communities together, and to provide both adults and children an enjoyable and affordable opportunity to take part in community singing.

The group are looking for children between the ages of 4 – 14 to join their theatre group in Broughton Astley on Wednesdays 5.15 – 7.00pm.

This year they will be performing a Christmas production in early December.

The choirs and musical theatre groups are non-auditioned – everyone who enjoys group singing and who wants to share this with the community is welcome.

No previous experience or the ability to read music is necessary.

All groups take part in local community events and competitions, and have the chance to participate in larger scale concerts involving all ‘Musical Village’ groups.

Musical Village aims to:

  • to bring communities of Leicestershire closer together;
  • to be firmly based on the principles of community and inclusivity;
  • to enjoy the art of singing and to pass this love onto our children;
  • to support & engage in community and charity based activities;

So no auditions, no pressure, just singing for fun!  Wednesdays 7.15 – 9.15pm at Sutton Elms Baptist Church Hall, Broughton Astley.

Musical Director Lesia Smaditch

Musical Village also have choirs and theatre groups in Leicester Forest East and welcome anyone who loves singing!

The group’s musical director is Lesia Smaditch.  Lesia has been involved in community music all her life, playing in orchestras, singing in choirs and performing as a soloist.

She has studied choral conducting with the ‘Association of British Choral Directors’ and currently conducts several local adult and children’s choirs.

Lesia also teaches choirs and the music curriculum at a number of schools around the county.
