MP crowns Christmas Card competition winner

Posted on December 17, 2021 by staff
Alberto Costa M.P. with the Head Teacher of The Pastures Primary School in Narborough, Mrs Donna Cecchini, with the winning Christmas card design.

South Leicestershire MP, Alberto Costa, has visited The Pastures Primary School in Narborough to congratulate the winner of his annual Community Christmas Card Competition, 9-year-old Tanvir Gill.

The MP launched his Christmas Card Competition again earlier this year and invited all primary school pupils in South Leicestershire to design his Christmas card cover for 2021 – a record number of schools entered this year’s competition with Tanvir Gill being awarded first place; she was awarded with some special House of Commons prizes and a certificate for her design featuring an angel.

Mr Costa’s card was kindly sponsored by four local constituency businesses, Christmas tree farm Oakberry Trees, Lutterworth-based vitamin manufacturer Lifeplan, Jenno’s Coffee House who have two establishments in Blaby and Everards Meadows and PSA Financial Services in Blaby.

First Runner-up in this year’s competition was Tessa Preston from Greystoke Primary School and the Second Runner-up was Amber Smith from Dunton Bassett Primary School – both Runner-up designs are featured on the reverse of the cards.

Mr Costa said, “My annual Christmas Card competition is one of my favourite parts of my job as a Member of Parliament and I was delighted to see so many primary schools from across South Leicestershire taking part. This year it was particularly difficult to choose a winner, especially with so many fantastic designs, but I should like to congratulate Tanvir again for her wonderful, heavenly angel drawing that was a very worthy winner”.

Mr Costa added, “My sincere thanks to our excellent sponsors – Oakberry Trees, Lifeplan, Jenno’s Coffee House and PSA – four community-focused South Leicestershire businesses who have very kindly sponsored the printing and postage of my card this year. I am hugely grateful to all those primary schools and young constituents who took part in this year’s competition and hope that all enjoy a very Merry Christmas!”.
