The Library will close at 1pm on Saturday 23rd April for a ‘transition period’.
When it re-opens as a ‘Community Library’ it will be fully staffed by volunteers with the support of the Enderby Library Management Committee and Enderby Parish Council.
People who offered to volunteer have been booked in on a number of training sessions on how to work in the library to be ready for the official launch of the Community Library in May.
Training includes booking out resources, reserving books and library cataloging systems.
Training will also include safeguarding and use of databases.
The training is being undertaken with the support of the County Council as part of the hand-over arrangements.
Volunteer Maria Hetherington is coordinating the training and she can be contacted on firstname.lastname@example.org <mailto:email@example.com> for more information about training and volunteering.
After the formal handover on April 25th, the library will be closed for a period to allow for some building improvement work to take place.
This will include creating a small meeting room and a toilet with baby changing facilities and disability access.
Some interior re-decoration is planned and other improvements are expected to be made in a staged process following the official launch.
The library will formally re-open on Saturday 14th May with a launch event. (See the launch event poster on the EYE’s ‘What’s On’ page)
The re-opening of the library will be marked by Enderby Band playing as well as a raffle and other events, including planned guest appearances by two local authors.
Refreshments will be available and it will also be a chance for members of the community to see the refurbished space and meet library volunteers.
Chairperson of the Library Management Committee, Cllr. Tracy Green says:
“It would be lovely to see existing and new library users at the launch event as the community takes over the running of this important facility”.
